Fashion can sometimes be a little tricky to navigate; there's so many designers and trends to look at! Have no fear, with a little guidance (and someone else keeping tabs on designers) it's not hard to come up with a list of what to look for for Spring 2009 styles.

Trends

Skinny Pants... Still
Both in denim and trouser styles. So skinny they're bordering on legging territory; supper 80s, super rock & roll.
Seen At: Rock & Republic, Rag & Bone, Stærk, Proenza Schouler, Diesel, Carolina Herrera, Derek Lam, Phi

Lightweight and Sheer Fabrics
Billowy chiffons, silks, and satins fashioned in to exquisite draping or dramatic ruffles. Lots of undergarment-esque clothing.
Seen At: Erin Featherstone, Nicole Miller, TSE, Rachel Roy, Tracy Reese, Terexov

New Metallic
For spring the heavy metallic and glossy trends seen in '08 are being traded for fabrics with a light sheen and shimmer. New metallics are subtler, softer, and less agressive.
Seen At: Nicole Miller, Rag & Bone, Terexov, Rock & Republic, United Bamboo, Jonathan Saunders, Diane von Furstenberg, Vena Cava, Luca Luca, Thuy, William Rast, Stærk, Jill Stewart, Benjamin Cho, Oscar de la Renta, Carolina Herrera, Benjamin Cho, Doo.RI, Peter Som, Michael Kors, Richard Chai, Marc by Marc Jacobs, Max Azria, Derek Lam, Iodice, Rodarte, Matthew Williamson, Rebecca Taylor, Calvin Klein, Marc Jacobs, Tommy Hilfiger, Chris Han, Phi, Vera Wang, Zac Pozen

Color Blocking
Geometric shapes and cutouts liven up all the subdue grays and neutrals with a pop of bold color.
Seen At: Abaeté, TSE, Rachel Roy, DKNY, Michael Kors, Behnaz Sarafpour, Marc by Marc Jacobs, Cynthia Rowley

Harem Pants
Not "Hammer" pants per say, 2009 harem pants are sleek, well tailored, and closer fitting version than then said hip hop star or I Dream of Jeannie.
Seen At: Peter Som, Diesel, Miss Sixty, Diane von Furstenberg, Doo.Ri, Tommy Hilfiger, Phi

Interesting and Unexpected Ruffles
Ruffles are the detail of the season. But don't expect to see them in the same predictable spots or patterns. Designers have really gotten creative with their ruffles for spring.
Seen At: Nanette Lapore, Richard Chai, Bryan Reys, Marc by Marc Jacobs, Betsey Johnson, Zac Pozen, Rebecca Taylor

Romper
The one piece combo of shorts and a top like you used to wear when you were little is now all grownup and sexified.
Seen At: Luca Luca, Betsey Johnson, Peter Som, Alexandre Herchcovitch, Miss Sixty, Karen Walker, Nanette Lapore, Marc by Marc Jacobs, Derek Lam

Colors

Cream, White, Champagne and Bone
Seen At: TSE, Rag & Bone, Rachel Roy, Sue Stemp, Erin Featherstone, Tracy Reese, Diane von Furstenberg, BCBG, Tibi, Diesel, Proenza Schouler, Luca Luca, Nanette Lapore, Brian Reyes, Iodice
