In fashion, history always repeats itself and nothing is ever new. You can interrupt this seasons’s trends by shopping for the original vintage styles that inspired them.
Colors and prints are an easy way to incorporate vintage styles into contemporary styles. Looking for these colors and pattern will make you search a little easier.
Deep Purples

Pantone's Blue IrisA rich blue hued purple called Blue Iris was chosen as Pantone's Color of the Year for 2008 and is inspiring a rich palate of purples for fall. The key to purples this fall is to stay toward blue undertones as opposed to red.
Look for vintage pieces in rich, saturated, jewel toned purples in amethyst and violet. You'll be on point with fall 08 trends and bring a great pop to your wardrobe.
Classic Patterns and Textures

Gossip Girl. Classic autumn weaves and textures can be found everywhere for fall 2008, and won't be hard to find from decades past.
Look for classic plaids, tartans, oversized and boldly colored houndstooth, and fine brown tweeds.
Arty Prints

Christian Dior Fall 2008 PrintBold abstract patterns, oversized irregular florals, and painterly prints are a fresh trend for fall 08. If a fabric print looks drawn or painted, then it right for fall.
Wild 1980s prints and 50s/60s novelty printed skirts and scarfs would be great vintage pieces for this trend.
Feathers

As always peacock is king, but ostrich and pheasant are great as well. Stay away from costumey, neon feathers and boas, this fall feathers are refined and add interest, it's not about looking like a showgirl.
Mellowed Jewel Tones

Ochre, Fern, Rose, and Burnt OrangeFaded and muted jewel colors replace the vivid jewel tones of last fall. Pops of colors from this group liven up earth tones tweeds and plaids. They cam be mixed a lot of different way and go great with black and gray. 1970s clothes is a good place to look for these muddled colors.
