Public Enemies Brings The 1930's To The Big Screen

Wednesday July 1, 2009
Summer blockbusters are usually quite uneventful when it comes to awesome vintage costuming, but this week Public Enemies opens in theaters. Combining period drama and action, it's the perfect date movie for the vintage lover.

Starring Johnny Depp (I know I don't need to go on, but I will), Christian Bale, and period film darling Marion Cotillard; Public Enemies is about the bank robber John Dillinger. Dillinger was a household name in the 1930s not because he was FBI's #1 Most Wanted criminal, but because he managed to escape prison on three separate occasions.

The majority if the movie was filmed in Wisconsin and Illinois, and costume designer Colleen Atwood sourced more than 400 pieces of vintage clothing from Midwestern vintage shops. This means that there will be a lot of 100% authentic 1930s clothing to watch for.

From the previews, I am already in love with Marion Cotillard styling. I can't wait to get the full impact of the look of this movie, which I hear is very accurate. Something tells me I will be inspired to start wearing cloche's and start finger waving my hair!
